The collection of
Luba Matusovsky would look completely different today if the famous artist
Irina Vilkovir had not offered to paint her portrait after seeing the young and beautiful Luba in the mid-70s. Having learned about Matusovsky's affinity for contemporary art, Irina Vilkovir introduced her to
Moses Feigin, who was in his 70's at the time, and in her words - a unique Pablo Picasso level master-artist. Having entered Feigin's Moscow workshop for the first time, Matusovsky immediately saw the amazing work entitled "
The Temptation of St. Anthony." She was impressed by the master's artistic taste and the amazing technique of the collage, which combines shiny metal foil with oil paint. From that day on, the gold and silver light of the foil became a symbol of a special friendship between the artist and the collector.
The artist had an amazing working capacity for his years - he continued to paint all the way until the age of 104 which earned him a place in the
Guinness Book of Records in 2007 as the world's oldest working professional artist.
His was taught firsthand by Ilya Mashkov, Aristarkh Lentulov, Alexander Osmerkin. But after seeing Feigin's work, it is clear that the student has surpassed his teachers!
